This part of the book is a companion piece to the book: ‘Let’s Kill Capitalism’ and it is about the rules and regulations which will be put in place by creating an Aretecratic system of government, if partisan politics were still relevant under this system you could consider this The Aretecratic manifesto. This is where the ‘meat’ of Aretecracy lies but it’s difficult to make rules and regulations sound interesting so I apologise in advance if this part is boring.
Please note: Making this section a bit nicer is on my to-do list.
Currently the world is highly unbalanced; this is almost entirely the fault of capitalism being allowed to run rampant. Corporations lobby for things, which do not serve to help humanity, but line the corporation’s own pockets.
Unfortunately, we are not herbivores and vegetarianism is not a viable solution for everyone (myself included). Therefore we cannot give livestock animals the same rights as humans. However changes which can be made, will be made.
The tribe mentality of our ancestors played a vital role when we were small minded and limited. Our collective power and intelligence no longer requires this philosophy and our artificially defined countries only serve to create differences between us and stop us from becoming truly global.
The first thing to remember about Aretecracy is that all Aretecractic nations, regardless of the distance between them, are all part of a single Aretecratic Union and are considered to be a single nation. ‘Foreign Policy’ therefore only refers to dealing with countries who are not a part of the AU.
All businesses will have to now be more careful about the products and services they provide as now the burden of proof will rest on them, rather than the customer.
Employment will come with some considerable benefits and whilst living relatively comfortably will be more than possible for those who are happy to do so, employment will provide people with a higher quality of life due to an increased allowance and the ability to potentially earn more Grace.
Healthcare will always be a major factor in the running of a country, Aretecracy gets an advantage as it encourages a healthier society anyway but that doesn’t mean accidents won’t happen, that people won’t get ill and that the old still won’t need a lot of attention from healthcare professionals.
All previously owned land and property will now be owned by the government. But wait… There's more.
Making a living is all well and good but how do you spend money?
Crime is still an epidemic in the world and I think the soft and easily bought judicial system plays a large factor in this problem. So the legal system will be overhauled to compensate for this in the following ways:
Whilst Aretecracy is one nation and one nation alone, a military budget is still a necessary evil.
Without a free press the people have no voice, if corporations own the media then we will only see the information that they want to be shared, a lot of the time it doesn’t even need to be true! This will not stand.
Couples who wish to have children need to apply to the government for permission and must pass a series of evaluations first. Bear with me on this one...
Our society no longer needs religion to answer most of our questions; I believe that religion is responsible for a lot of evil done in this world.
Under Aretecracy, all technology is open source, this means that without patent disputes, companies can create machines and software which can interact with each other in unprecedented ways. Also it means that anyone who has the ability, can improve on existing technology without fear of reprisal from the inventor.
An important part of founding a new government is setting in stone what that government is allowed to do and more importantly what it is not allowed to do. This bill will show the powers that the government has and will impose limitations on what it cannot do.
The founding fathers of The United States of America did something amazing when they created the Bill of Rights, with the notable exception of the Second Amendment (The right to bear arms), it is a fantastic blueprint for what a country should expect from it’s government and is a testament to freedom.
Travel is something we cannot avoid, nor is it something most of us want to avoid. There will still be many reasons to travel under Aretecracy, be it for business or pleasure. Here is how the system will deal with exploring the planet.
The current educational system doesn’t benefit our society as much as it should. Most of a child’s education is based around teaching them absolute basics and then covers an academic set of subjects which have little in the way of practical application. Aretecracy hopes to change this.
The astute amongst you may have spotted something. If the Grace generated from a sale is distributed across everyone in the supply line of that product/service. Then why would anyone try to own a business instead of just working in one?
A cornerstone of the current money-driven economy is supply and demand, in a world where traditional concepts of money do not exist, how can supply and demand still exist? What will drive market growth?
The current class system serves no real purpose other than to create a separation between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’. Aretecracy has removed the old class system and replaced it with a system which places people in classes they deserve to be in.
